Quiet Field Notes

Small observations from paths, parks and changing seasons.

After-rain colour

Wet bark and stone briefly hold deeper colours than they do in dry weather. The effect is strongest under an even, overcast sky.

Edges are busy places

The border between an open lawn and a line of shrubs often carries more movement than either area on its own.

A five-minute return

Revisiting the same short path at different hours reveals more than continually searching for a completely new view.

Notes without equipment

Time, direction, temperature and one precise detail are enough to make a useful field note that can be compared later.
